What Do Chihuahuas and Foxes Have in Common?

April 30, 2017
What do Chihuahuas and foxes have in common?

1 Chihuahuas are the descendants of the Fennec Fox!

Errr you might think it’s true (have a look at those ears!) but it’s not. We are definitely more wolfy than foxy 😉

Fennec fox and Chihuahuas

2 Chihuahuas love to roll in Fox poo!

Even though us little guys are extremely sophisticated, when we sniff Fox poo we just can’t control ourselves! Roll in it, again and again and again. Sorry mummy, wasn’t listening…

3 I have my very own Foxy Lady!

Sometimes late at night when I patrol my neighbourhood, my foxy fox admirer decides to stalk me a little. Next time I’ll sign a pawtograph card for her.

Does your Chihuahua show his or her inner Fox? Would love to hear from you!

But those I will share with you another time. Mummy and I are all set for Christmas, we have our decorations ready and our guests invited. I can’t wait to have my doggie girl friend come over too. I would love to hear what you are doing over the holidays and what your dream present would be! Let me see…mine would be a very juicy steak 🙂 Lots of love and Merry Christmas! Chilli xxx

Chihuahua Behaviour Checklist With Some Funny Dog Stories!

October 6, 2016
Chilliwawa Dog Stories

Now, I know we Chihuahuas are just the cutest and most adorable little mongrels on the planet, but occasionally we can misbehave. However, that does make for some funny dog stories. We aim to please.

It’s not usually our fault. It’s usually because of kids who pull our tail or stroke us the wrong way (I hate that!) Or old ladies who pick up us up and smear their bright pink lipstick all over our lovely designer scarves.

When something as distressing as this happens, I can’t help but go barking mad! And my bark is a strong bark. My bark can be heard for miles. My bark is so ferocious it will make grown men cry. Ha!

But Mommy says I need to behave better. She thinks sometimes I am provoked too easily and need to control my temper. I thought maybe she was right. I always try to listen to what Mommy says. But I do not she does like to dine out on my funny dog stories so I don’t think she minds too much.

So, last week we decided to create the world’s very first Chihuahua Dog Behaviour Checklist!

The idea was that Mommy and I would go to the park, where I tend to bark a lot, to see what bothered me. Then I would try my best to keep calm any time I wanted to bark.

So here it is…

Chihuahua Dog Behaviour Checklist!

1. Be nice to kids. Even the ones with sticky fingers.

This is another one of my funny dog stories. We’d only been in the park for five minutes when 2 little girls came over and started petting me. They made a strange squealing noise, but they were gentle and thankfully they stroked me the right way. I didn’t feel like barking 🙂

But then their baby brother noticed us. He looked awkward and clumsy as he stumbled towards us. Hmm. This was more dangerous, I thought. He came closer, to within touching distance, and I began to get nervous. And that’s when I noticed it: a jam sandwich! IN HIS HAND! Oh God! I looked at Mommy. She hadn’t noticed. I didn’t bark. I stayed calm. I didn’t want to fail the behaviour test so quickly. The baby brother reached out his free hand. I could see the jam stuck to his fingers. It was awful. They moved towards me. Closer – inches away! I shut my eyes tight. ‘Don’t bark, Chilli’ I thought to myself, ‘Whatever you do, don’t bark!’. And that’s when Mommy saved me. Just in the nick of time Mommy saw the boy’s sticky jam fingers and lifted me to safety! It was like an angel swooping down to save me from something truly terrible.

I love you Mommy!!

Verdict: Pass!

2. Indulge your fans

Being the Internet’s cutest and possibly most famous Chihuahua, it doesn’t surprise me when people stop Mommy and I in the park to ask for a photo. They are great fans of all the funny dog stories that appear on this site. Ha, modest, moi? Usually I don’t mind this, but sometimes – if I’m having a bad day – I simply don’t have the time.

After escaping the sticky jam fingers, however, I was in a good mood. I wanted to show Mommy how grateful I was too, so when somebody recognised me and asked to take a photo, I was more than happy to oblige! I posed for 3 or 4 and put on my best smile. Mommy was pleased 🙂

Verdict: Pass!

3. Respect your elders

We continued our walk and my tail was wagging. I felt great. This behaviour test was easy! ‘I was going to pass with flying colours!’ I thought. Mommy said what a good boy I was. I love my Mommy.

But then another dog appeared. He was an ugly, bigger dog that I’d never seen before. God he was a brute. And here he was, on my patch! ‘How dare he!’ I thought. And he was old and smelled awful. A big, old, brutish dog making a smell on MY patch!! I couldn’t resist. ‘Go away!’ I barked, ‘Take your old horrid smell some place else!’ I barked again. It felt good. And if I didn’t tell him then who would? He looked scared when he walked past with his owner. ‘Ha!’ I thought.

But Mommy wasn’t impressed. She scolded me. “Chilli! I thought we agreed you were going to behave today! What did that nice old dog ever do to you? You should respect your elders Chilli!”

I realised Mommy was right. I shouldn’t have barked at him for being old, ugly and smelly. I should respect my elders like Mommy says.

Verdict: Fail

4. Be the bigger dog and walk away

I was determined to make up for my little outburst and show Mommy that I could pass the Chihuahua Dog Behaviour test. Just one chance – that’s all I needed!

Then I saw another dog. A bigger and older dog who I could respect! Yes! The dog came closer. Gosh he really was big, and quite scary-looking actually. But it didn’t matter; I would respect him anyway! But then I realised he didn’t want to be friendly. He suddenly leaped towards me, pulling his surprised owner by the leash, and barked very loudly. He had the scariest bark I’d ever heard! Suddenly I didn’t want to be friends with this dog anymore, even if it meant I lost my chance to redeem myself. Mommy shouted at the bad dog and I ran to the other side of her. I was scared, but Mommy would keep me safe!

Before the dog could reach us his owner pulled him back and shouted at him too. He turned and walked away. I was safe, and I hadn’t barked back! “Well done Chilli” said Mommy, “he was a nasty dog but you behaved so well. Here, take a doggy treat for being such a good boy.”

Verdict: Pass!

And just like that, I was happy again. I had passed the first Chihuahua Dog Behaviour Test! And received a treat! That really is one of many funny dog stories. Mind you I am using the word ‘funny’ in the ironic sense here

Now I’m looking forward to the next test. I could be the best-behaved Chihuahua in London before long! 🙂 What do you think?

Cute Dog Alert: Chilli Dons a Versace Scarf in the Park!

September 19, 2016
Cute Dog

When I heard on the radio that we’re going to have an Indian summer right here in London town, my tail wouldn’t stop wagging! I was so excited. It meant, of course, that I could wear my aviator sunglasses and original Versace silk scarf to the park! Mommy is such a fashionista. She knows how to make her cute dog look so glamourous 🙂

I love the park when its sunny out. It’s wonderfully warm and the sunlight makes the green grass twinkle. There are more dogs than usual too, so I can show off my trendy look! They all stop and stare at me. I doubt they’ve ever seen such a dapper-looking pup.

Trouble in the Park

Yesterday, Mommy and I decided to go for a really long walk in the park. Both of us were dressed to the nines and strutting our stuff. I think she likes to show me off when I look so cute. She smiles a lot when people tell her she has such a cute dog. One lady thought I was so cute that she couldn’t resist picking me up and giving me a kiss! I don’t mind kisses but this lady was wearing bright pink lipstick, and some of it got on my scarf. I was angry so I barked at her. That Versace scarf is a 1980s original! Couldn’t she see that!? And now there was a great big pink smudge on it!

Neither she nor Mommy seemed to notice, so I carried on barking with my lips pulled back so the lady could see my sharp teeth, and how angry I was. “I don’t know what’s got into her!” said Mommy. “Oh but he’s still so cute!” replied the lady. Right then I didn’t want to be cute anymore. I wanted to be scary. I wanted to frighten that lady for what she’d done to my lovely silk scarf. But no matter how loudly I barked and snarled, she didn’t get scared. I am simply too adorable.

Eventually, the bright pink lipstick lady went away, and Mommy and I could continue with our walk. I calmed down and stopped barking, but I was still very annoyed. That’s when Mommy saw the stain on my scarf. “Oh Chilli!” she said, “did that nice lady accidentally stain your beautiful Versace silk scarf? Is that why you’re mad?” She knew she was right. My Mommy knows me so well. “Don’t be mad Chilli. Why don’t we go to the charcuterie on Clapham Common? You like it there don’t you?”

I do like it there. In fact, the charcuterie on Clapham Common is my favourite. You can buy all sorts of snacks there, like salami and pastrami slices! Yes! Suddenly, I was excited again. My tail was wagging and I instantly forgot all about the pink lipstick smudge on my scarf. Mommy knows how to cheer me up. Mommy knows me so well.

Cute Dog in the Charcuterie

When we arrived at the charcuterie, I immediately recognised some of my cute doggy friends. They looked typically stylish and really pleased to see me. I was pleased to see them too. But I was especially happy to find Ralph and Lauren there. They are twin Labradoodles, and my pawesome friends. Ralph was wearing a very handsome Dior bowtie and Lauren donned a silk scarf very like mine, except hers was a flamboyant number from the new Vivienne Westwood range. She’s so à la mode.

Naturally, they both commented how gorgeous my Versace scarf was. I told them all about what had happened in the park with the lady and her pink lipstick but they insisted that the smudge was barely visible – even close up! That made me happy, and I realised that perhaps I’d overreacted a bit. That lady was only showing her approval of my fine taste. I thought if I saw her again I’d give her a lick to let her know I was sorry.

Mommy bought some salami for me and I devoured it. Ralph and Lauren’s Daddy bought some for them too. We played together for a while and then Mommy had the fantastic idea of all of us going to the park together. Me in my classy Versace silk scarf, Ralph in his elegant Dior bowtie and Lauren in her chic Vivienne Westwood number. Oh how the heads did turn!

What a splendid afternoon it was. I may not be scary but I’m certainly one of the cutest dogs you’re ever likely to meet!

Halloween Shopping with Mommy: Dog blog fun!

October 26, 2015
Chilliwawa dog blog Halloween costume shopping

Dog blog Selfies in the changing room!

Halloween is coming soon so Mommy and I went to this lovely shop on the King’s Road to look for a costume. They had lots of fun and novel bits and pieces to create a cool outfit. Mommy asked me to try on her headpiece so that she could get a better idea of its look. “Yes”, she exclaimed “that’s the one!” You’ll never guess what outfit Mommy chose in the end-hint it’s not the tiger! Thank you Ad Hoc for a fun shopping experience!

At the same time as having fun the shop was a great opportunity for Mommy and I to work on my training. There were lots of people and children and a big black dog so it was the kind of environment that could set off my reactive behaviour. Mommy was armed with my treats and she did concentration work with me. She asked me to “watch” her and do my favourite beg. Once or twice when Mommy wasn’t looking I managed to squeeze in a bark at a child and one at the big dog-naughty me! Overall Mommy was very pleased with me-she said I did really well.
